| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | Sexual objectification in intimate relationships has received increasing attention due to its potential consequences for individual and relational well-being. The present study contributes to research on sexual objectification through the Italian adaptation and evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Inventory of Partner Sexual Objectification (IPSO; Brock et al., 2025), a measure assessing the perception of being reduced by one’s partner to one’s physical appearance or sexual functions. The IPSO comprises four dimensions: General Objectification, Unconditional Body Appreciation, Body Autonomy Denial, and Body Neglect. A total of 327 adults currently involved in a romantic relationship participated in the study and completed a battery of questionnaires assessing the constructs under investigation. The study is grounded in Objectification Theory and examines the relationships between sexual objectification by an intimate partner, romantic love, Objectified Body Consciousness, and Self-Silencing. Based on previous theoretical and empirical evidence, it was hypothesized that higher levels of perceived sexual objectification would be associated with lower levels of intimacy, passion, and commitment, and with higher levels of Objectified Body Consciousness and Self-Silencing. The observed associations between the IPSO and theoretically related constructs contributed to the evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Italian version. Overall, the findings contribute to the availability of a measure specifically designed to assess the perception of sexual objectification by an intimate partner and provide an initial contribution to the study of this phenomenon in the Italian context. | en_UK |
