The thesis analyses Outer Space from a geographical perspective, focusing on the role of cinema in constructing and representing extraterrestrial space. After examining the relationship between geography, cinema and science fiction, the study explores the case of Interstellar, considering how the film connects the crisis of Earth’s habitability, the cosmic imaginary and scientific knowledge. The analysis also examines the different levels of plausibility of phenomena such as the Gargantua black hole, the wormhole and time dilation, before reconstructing the material geography of the film’s production. It thus shows how even a space narratively located beyond Earth is constructed through profoundly terrestrial places, technologies, expertise and processes.
