| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | This study examines the authorial figure of Philip Roth (1933-2018), a Jewish-American writer of the second half of the 20th century, considering his recent rights acquisition by the publishing house Adelphi, finalized in 2024. The transfer of the author from the Einaudi catalogue to Adelphi’s one coincided with a new project to publish his complete works, making it possible to examine how a publishing house can intervene in the repositioning of an established author with a consolidated reputation in the Italian publishing industry. His work, previously published by Bompiani and Einaudi, includes more than thirty titles, all of which had already been published, including minor works and non-fiction. The distinctive nature of this acquisition raises questions about the possibility of «relaunching» such a prominent author through an unprecedented project within a changed cultural and publishing context. The operation is examined in light of the origins and the identity of Adelphi, which, since its foundation, has sought to distinguish itself within the contemporary publishing landscape. This comparison makes it possible to observe how a publisher’s distinctive imprint can affect an author’s positioning and reception. The study focuses on the reasons underlying a new process of canonization in contemporary Italian publishing, investigating the methods and criteria through which it is carried out. The analysis centres on Portnoy, the author’s first work published by Adelphi and on a close examination of its components, from those concerning the book’s form (graphic design, title, translation and supplementary material) to promotional and marketing strategies in the construction of the event. Finally, the study evaluates the validity and reasons of the operation, broadening the perspective to the fluid nature of the canon and the role of internal dynamics within publishing companies in the processes of authorial repositioning and canonization. | en_UK |
