This thesis begins with an analysis of the Circeo massacre, which took place in 1975, a high-profile criminal case that profoundly marked Italian history not only because of the severity of the events, but also because of the social, cultural, and media implications that followed. After reconstructing the historical and social context in which the events unfolded – the “Roma bene” of the 1970s, with its contradictions and forms of privilege – the research focuses on the journalistic coverage of the case, with particular attention to the archives of *Il Messaggero*, *La Repubblica*, and *Corriere della Sera*. The aim is to examine the ways in which the press portrayed the victims and those responsible, the language it employed, and the narratives that contributed to shaping public opinion. The analysis then highlights the ethical and regulatory changes that journalism has undergone from the 1970s to the present day: from the sensationalisation of violence, through the publication of graphic images and gruesome details, to the current framework governed by ethical codes and legislation, such as the Cartabia reform, which strengthens the principle of the presumption of innocence and the protection of the dignity of the individuals involved. An original element of the research is the interview with Massimo Lugli, a journalist who covered the case for *Paese Sera*. His first-hand testimony provides a valuable insight into the dynamics of crime reporting at the time, the role of the media in shaping news coverage, and the evolution of journalism from the 1970s to the present day. Finally, the thesis explores the social and cultural memory of the case: from the first demonstrations organised by feminist movements in support of victims of violence, to the emergence of civic initiatives such as the foundation established in honour of the two young women, and finally to the artistic and theatrical reinterpretations that have contributed to transforming the Circeo massacreen_UK
