This thesis analyses the main European models for the development of young football players, with particular attention to the role of national federations, clubs, professional leagues and public institutions. The study focuses on England, Germany, Spain, France and Italy, while also including a brief analysis of the Norwegian model. Through a comparative approach based on institutional documents, public sources and academic literature, the research highlights the different ways in which European football systems identify, develop and support young talent. In some countries, clubs play the leading role in youth development, whereas in others national federations and territorial structures assume greater responsibility. The comparison shows that there is no single European model that can be universally applied to different national contexts. With regard to Italy, the analysis highlights the existence of well-established structures and programmes, including the Youth and School Sector, the Federal Territorial Centres, the Evolution Programme and national youth competitions. However, the main weaknesses concern coordination among the different actors involved and, above all, the transition from youth football to the professional level. Further areas for development include stronger integration between sport and education, greater protection of young athletes and increased attention to individual differences in biological maturation. The European comparison therefore suggests that Italy should not simply replicate a foreign model, but rather improve the continuity and coordination of its existing youth development pathway.en_UK
