dc.description.abstractConstruction/demolition waste can be recycled to help provide a clean environment. Infrastructure development contributes to environmental contamination and impacts climate change. Therefore, it is necessary to recycle the waste products from construction and demolition to create “green” concrete. Studies suggest that employing recycled aggregate (RA) from solid waste concrete instead of natural aggregate (NA) in recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) benefits the economy and environment. It could save 10–20% of material costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65%, and reduce non-renewable energy use by 58%. RA and RAC are being studied more due to environmental concerns and sustainable development. Over 10,000 RAC publications have been published in the past 20 years (Lu, 2024a) .The Technology readiness level for recycled aggregate concrete is “6” meaning that prototype and subsystems have been successfully demonstrated in relevant environments however full-scale operational use is still limited. Aggregates (fine and coarse) generally account for 60–75% of concrete volume. Various approaches have been suggested to enhance the mechanical properties of RCA. Removing old mortar, using different mixing approaches, and adding mineral admixtures are some of these. The lack of technical guidelines, standard test methods, mixed proportioning methods, and standard code specifications hinders the use of RCA in the construction industries (Kumar & Singh, 2023).To obtain good quality concrete using recycled aggregate it is necessary to follow the minimum requirements defined by the respective building standards. Acceptable properties of aggregates are an elemental base for concrete quality; however adequate mix proportions and concrete production methods are highly important in concrete quality too.
