“Identità, etnicità e conflittualità: un’analisi antropologica dei processi di costruzione della differenza”

Abstract

Questa tesi si propone di mostrare come l’identità non possa essere compresa come un’essenza naturale e immutabile, ma debba essere analizzata come il risultato di processi simbolici e politici di distinzione, attribuzione e assunzione che la costituiscono come una realtà storica, dinamica ed equivoca. Il problema, qui, non è stabilire se le identità siano “vere” o “false”, ma comprendere attraverso quali processi esse diventino socialmente reali. Inoltre, il lavoro intende interrogare il rapporto tra produzione dell’identità etnica e conflittualità, mostrando come le categorie identitarie possano diventare strumenti di mobilitazione, dominio e violenza quando vengono naturalizzate, irrigidite e istituzionalizzate.

This thesis aims to demonstrate that identity cannot be understood as a natural and immutable essence, but rather must be analyzed as the outcome of symbolic and political processes of distinction, attribution, and appropriation that constitute it as a historical, dynamic, and ambiguous reality. The issue, therefore, is not to determine whether identities are “true” or “false,” but to understand the processes through which they become socially real. Furthermore, this study seeks to examine the relationship between the production of ethnic identity and conflict, showing how identity categories can become instruments of mobilization, domination, and violence when they are naturalized, rigidified, and institutionalized.
