Il ruolo delle immagini nel dibattito teologico: un'analisi del Concilio di Nicea II e del Concilio di Trento.

Abstract

L’elaborato analizza il ruolo dell’arte nel dibattito teologico cristiano attraverso i secoli, mettendo in luce come le immagini sacre abbiano influenzato e riflesso trasformazioni dottrinali, storiche e culturali. Il primo capitolo ricostruisce l’evoluzione del cristianesimo nel rapporto con ebraismo ed ellenismo, soffermandosi sul pensiero dei Padri della Chiesa e sulla disputa iconoclasta culminata nel Concilio di Nicea II. Il secondo capitolo esamina momenti di frattura dell’unità ecclesiale, dai Libri Carolini agli scismi d’Oriente e d’Occidente, fino alla Riforma Protestante e al Concilio di Trento, evidenziando il dibattito sulle immagini sacre e il contesto religioso europeo. La sezione conclusiva analizza il periodo post-tridentino, approfondendo la regolamentazione della vita del fedele e il clima artistico tra XVI e XVII secolo attraverso figure chiave come Carlo e Federico Borromeo e il cardinale Paleotti, evidenziando la complessità del rapporto tra arte, dottrina e storiografia.

The paper analyzes the role of art in the christian theological debate throughout the centuries, highlighting how sacred images have influenced and reflected doctrinal, historical, and cultural transformations. The first chapter reconstructs the evolution of christianity in relation to Judaism and Hellenism, focusing on the thought of the Church Fathers and on the iconoclastic controversy that culminated in the Second Council of Nicaea. The second chapter examines key moments of fragmentation within the Church, from the Libri Carolini to the Eastern and Western Schisms, and then the Protestant Reformation and the Council of Trent, emphasizing the debate on sacred images and the European religious context. The final section analyzes the post-Tridentine period, exploring the regulation of the faithful’s life and the artistic climate between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries through key figures such as Carlo and Federico Borromeo and Cardinal Paleotti, highlighting the complexity of the relationship between art, doctrine, and historiography.
