Motori a magneti permanenti: materiali, applicazioni e mercato.

Abstract

Nel contesto della transizione energetica globale, spinta da fattori quali cambiamento climatico ed esigenza di ridurre la dipendenza dai combustibili fossili, l’aumento dell’efficienza e la diminuzione del consumo energetico diventano obiettivi primari. Tra i motori elettrici quelli che meglio rispondono a questi requisiti sono i motori a magneti permanenti. In questo elaborato di tesi si vuole dunque fornire una visione globale di questi motori, definendo le varie tipologie disponibili, mercato e aziende produttrici. Si pone poi particolare attenzione ai magneti permanenti, cuore di questi motori, evidenziandone proprietà, caratteristiche e mercato; focus particolare viene posto sui magneti in terre rare, si analizzano disponibilità, criticità e perché rappresentano un ruolo così preponderante nella situazione geopolitica globale. In ultimo vengono analizzate applicazioni tipiche dei motori a magneti permanenti, concentrandosi soprattutto su ambito automobilistico e settore robotico, riportando anche esempi specifici, spiegandone funzionamento e perché vengono usati questi tipi di motori.

In the context of the global energy transition, driven by factors such as climate change and the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, increasing efficiency and decreasing energy consumption are becoming primary objectives. Among electric motors, Permanent Magnet (PM) motors are those that best meet these requirements. This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive overview of PM motors, defining the various available types, their market, and manufacturing companies. Particular attention is then focused on the permanent magnets themselves, the core component of these motors, highlighting their properties, characteristics, and market dynamics. A specific focus is placed on rare-earth magnets, analyzing their availability, critical issues, and why they hold such a dominant role in the current global geopolitical landscape.Finally, typical applications of permanent magnet motors are analyzed, concentrating mainly on the automotive and robotics sectors. The paper reports specific examples, explaining their operation and the reasons for choosing these particular motor types in these fields.
