Empatia e sviluppo tecnologico: un’analisi filosofica delle dinamiche socio-affettive nell’era digitale

Abstract

La presente tesi indaga il rapporto tra empatia e sviluppo tecnologico, ponendo al centro dell’analisi le dinamiche socio-affettive caratterizzanti l’era digitale. In un’epoca segnata da rapidi sviluppi tecnologici e da sfide globali sempre più complesse, che incidono profondamente sulle modalità relazionali, l’empatia risulta fondamentale, ma spesso insufficiente, la cui comprensione e promozione risultano cruciali per l’esistenza umana. L’indagine di natura filosofica intreccia prospettive filosofiche, umanistiche e neuroscientifiche. Il primo capitolo ricostruisce le principali teorie sull’empatia, dalla “simpatia” di David Hume e Adam Smith, alla fenomenologia di Edith Stein, fino alle più recenti rielaborazioni di autori contemporanei come Stefano Pinzan, Sarah Songhorian e Laura Boella. Il secondo capitolo analizza l’impatto delle tecnologie digitali sulle relazioni umane e sui processi empatici, con particolare attenzione ai cambiamenti introdotti dalle interazioni digitali e agli effetti della pandemia da COVID-19. Il terzo capitolo esplora la possibilità di sviluppare l’empatia attraverso percorsi educativi e di regolazione, riflettendo anche sul biopotenzionamento morale. Infine, il quarto capitolo mette in luce la complessità dell’empatia, proponendola come pratica consapevole e plurale, con l’obiettivo di delineare un modello empatico capace di orientare l’agire morale, promuovendo una comprensione più attenta e responsabile dell’altro.

This thesis investigates the relationship between empathy and technological development, placing the socio-affective dynamics characterizing the digital age at the center of the analysis. In an era marked by rapid technological developments and increasingly complex global challenges, which profoundly impact relational modalities, empathy is fundamental, but often insufficient, and understanding and promoting it are crucial to human existence. Philosophical inquiry intertwines philosophical, humanistic, and neuroscientific perspectives. The first chapter reconstructs the main theories on empathy, from the “sympathy” of David Hume and Adam Smith, to the phenomenology of Edith Stein, up to the most recent reworkings of contemporary authors such as Stefano Pinzan, Sarah Songhorian and Laura Boella. The second chapter analyzes the impact of digital technologies on human relationships and empathic processes, with particular attention to the changes brought about by digital interactions and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The third chapter explores the possibility of developing empathy through educational and regulatory pathways, also reflecting on moral biopotentiation. Finally, the fourth chapter highlights the complexity of empathy, proposing it as a conscious and plural practice, with the aim of outlining an empathic model capable of guiding moral action, promoting a more careful and responsible understanding of others.
