L’economia degli Stati Uniti dal 1945 al 1973. Da Truman a Nixon

Abstract

L’oggetto di lavoro di questa tesi è un’analisi storico-economica degli Stati Uniti nel periodo che va dalla loro nascita alla fine della presidenza Nixon. L’obiettivo è di approfondire il periodo storico durante il quale gli Stati Uniti hanno consolidato la posizione di maggiore potenza politica ed economica raggiunta all’inizio del XX secolo. In particolare, sono stati analizzati i fattori e le cause principali di tale ascesa e gli effetti ad essi conseguenti. La scelta della storia economica come insegnamento su cui costruire la tesi è dovuta al piacere di studiare la storia e, soprattutto, le sue sfaccettature e le sue particolarità. Fra i tanti possibili temi e periodi storici, sono stati scelti gli Stati Uniti, per il notevole fascino che hanno esercitato verso il resto del mondo con il mito del ‘sogno americano’, la cultura e il consumismo di massa. Il periodo in questione ha destato il mio interesse perché volevo comprendere le motivazioni che hanno portato, negli anni Settanta, a mitizzare gli anni Cinquanta come un periodo di felicità, benessere e spensieratezza. Il metodo di ricerca utilizzato per la stesura della tesi è stato uno studio approfondito di alcuni libri e siti dove vengono raccolti dati statistici ed economici. Dopodiché, si è proceduto ad un’attenta analisi dei testi e del periodo storico in questione, scomponendolo in più parti. Il risultato è stato ottenuto mettendo il tutto insieme in un unico testo. I risultati dello studio hanno portato a comprendere molte sfumature della storia economica e sociale degli Stati Uniti e di creare, così, un testo nel quale trovare le risposte se si vuole sapere qualcosa di più sulla prima potenza mondiale e il suo percorso.

The object of this thesis is a historical-economic analysis of the United States in the period from their birth to the end of the Nixon presidency. The objective is to delve into the historical period during which the United States consolidated its position as a major political and economic power reached at the beginning of the 20th century. In particular, the main factors and causes of this rise and their consequent effects were analysed. The choice of economic history as a subject on which to build the thesis is due to the pleasure of studying history and, above all, its facets and particularities. Among the many possible themes and historical periods, the United States was chosen, for the remarkable fascination that they have exercised towards the rest of the world with the myth of the 'American dream', culture and mass consumerism. The period in question aroused my interest because I wanted to understand the motivations that led, in the 70s, to mythologize the 50s as a period of happiness, well-being and carelessness. The research method used for writing the thesis was an in-depth study of some books and sites where statistical and economic data are collected. After that, a careful analysis of the texts and the historical period in question was carried out, breaking it down into several parts. The result was achieved by putting everything together in a single text. The results of the study have led to understanding many nuances of the economic and social history of the United States and thus create a text in which to find answers if you want to know more about the first world power and its path.
