Quando l'Atletica diventa possibilità: effetti benefici tra Sindrome di Williams e Disturbo dello spettro autistico

Abstract

16 Agosto 2025, Giornata mondiale dell’emozioni forti “Roller Coaster Day” Oggi in tutto il mondo si celebrano le montagne russe, regine dei parchi dei parchi divertimento dal 1898 quando negli Stati Uniti a LaMarcus Thompson venne concesso il primo brevetto ufficiale per la loro costruzione; sono giostre ricoperte da un velo di mistero e timore ma che possono farci sorridere e provare un’energia unica. Associare la disabilità alle montagne russe puo’ risultare un paragone paradossale, ma a proposito di emozioni forti vissute al loro fianco nessuno sarebbe in grado di negarle. Il termine “paradosso” dervida dal greco “para” (contro) e “doxa” (opinione), ma l’obiettivo personale riposto in questa tesi magistrale non sarà quello di far cambiare opinione ad una platea di esperti in ambito sportivo o patologico ma solamente quello di far riflettere sulle difficoltà che possiamo incontrare lungo il nostro percorso e di proporre una soluzione per affrontarle con positività e coraggio. Presenterò la Sindrome di Williams e il Disturbo dello Spettro Autistico, le relative paure e criticità ma anche i punti di forza, le soddisfazioni e le cosiddette emozioni forti che possono far provare ai genitori, agli allenatori-educatori e a sé stessi. Che relazione esiste tra le due patologie? Lo sport e in particolare l’Atletica leggera puo’ aiutare? Dopo due anni dalla scrittura della tesi triennale per la facoltà Scienze Motorie Sport e Salute, oggi inizio quello che potrebbe essere l’ultimo capitolo di questo viaggio formativo promettendomi la stessa sincera curiosità che avevo il primo giorno di scuola.

August 16, 2025 – World Strong Emotions Day “Roller Coaster Day”

Today, roller coasters are being celebrated all over the world—the queens of amusement parks since 1898, when LaMarcus Thompson in the United States was granted the first official patent for their construction. These rides are wrapped in a veil of mystery and fear, yet they have the power to make us smile and experience a unique kind of energy.

Associating disability with roller coasters might seem like a paradox, but when it comes to strong emotions experienced alongside people with disabilities, no one could deny their intensity.

The word “paradox” comes from the Greek para (against) and doxa (opinion), but the personal goal of this master’s thesis is not to change the opinion of an audience of sports or medical experts, but simply to encourage reflection on the challenges we may encounter along our journey—and to propose a way to face them with positivity and courage.

I will present Williams Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder, exploring their associated fears and difficulties, but also their strengths, the moments of fulfillment, and those so-called “strong emotions” they can evoke in parents, coach-educators, and in the individuals themselves.

What connection exists between these two conditions? Can sport—and in particular, track and field—help?

Two years after completing my bachelor’s thesis in the field of Exercise and Sport Sciences, today I begin what could be the final chapter of this educational journey, promising myself the same genuine curiosity I had on my very first day of school.
