Educare con le immagini.Il racconto della "Grande Genova" tra le due guerre mondiali attraverso l'archivio dell'Istituto Luce

Abstract

Nel primo capitolo ho parlato della realizzazione delle grandi città, Milano, Venezia, Roma e Genova per volontà del Duce, sottolineando, però, come si tratti di un punto di arrivo, dopo un lungo e faticoso percorso iniziato nel secolo precedente. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato all’istituto Luce e, dopo un excursus storico, l’attenzione si focalizza sulla sua potenza propagandistica, potenza che Mussolini intuì immediatamente e utilizzò a piene mani, stravolgendo le finalità didattiche ed educative inziali dell’istituto; ne fece lo strumento fondamentale per creare una visione idealizzata del regime e del suo carismatico leader. Attraverso filmati e fotografie controllate e scelte personalmente da lui, il Luce divenne il mezzo per realizzare il progetto ideologico di una “coscienza fascista”, che avrebbe dovuto portare alla nascita di una “nuova Italia”. Il terzo capitolo è quello più personale in quanto descrivo e commento immagini, foto e video di Genova realizzate dal Luce. Ne ho visionate moltissime e, per esigenza di ordine e chiarezza, le ho divise per temi, inserendo quelle che ho ritenuto più significative a sostegno di quanto detto nei primi capitoli e per mostrare come ha operato la propaganda fascista

In the first chapter I spoke about the construction of the great cities, Milan, Venice, Rome and Genoa by will of the Duce, underlining, however, how it is a point of arrival, after a long and tiring journey that began in the previous century. The second chapter is dedicated to the Luce institute and, after a historical excursus, attention is focused on its propaganda power, a power that Mussolini immediately intuited and used liberally, distorting the initial didactic and educational purposes of the institute; he made it the fundamental tool for creating an idealized vision of the regime and its charismatic leader. Through films and photographs controlled and personally chosen by him, Luce became the means to realize the ideological project of a “fascist consciousness”, which should have led to the birth of a “new Italy”. The third chapter is the most personal one as I describe and comment on images, photos and videos of Genoa created by Luce. I have seen many of them and, out of a need for order and clarity, I have divided them by theme, inserting those that I considered most significant in support of what was said in the first chapters and to show how fascist propaganda operated
