Il presente studio si propone di offrire un primo approccio strutturato all'opera di Maria Rebecca Ballestra, analizzandone il percorso artistico e concettuale. L’artista, attraverso una pratica interdisciplinare che intreccia arte, scienza, ecologia e tecnologia, ha affrontato tematiche di grande attualità legate alla sostenibilità, alla memoria culturale e alle trasformazioni del nostro tempo. Il lavoro si concentra sulla metodologia utilizzata per lo studio delle fonti d’archivio, delineando una panoramica sulla raccolta e l’analisi del materiale documentario e critico relativo all’artista. Viene tracciata la biografia di Ballestra, con particolare attenzione alle sue mostre personali e collettive, alle residenze d’artista e ai riconoscimenti ricevuti.

Il catalogo ragionato esamina i suoi principali progetti artistici, tra cui Journey into Fragility e Festival for the Earth, evidenziando il suo impegno verso il rapporto tra uomo e ambiente. Un focus particolare è dedicato alle sue installazioni e opere più recenti, tra cui Sowers, che esplora la relazione tra arte, tecnologia e natura, e Echoes of the Void, che introduce una riflessione sulla temporalità.

L’obiettivo dello studio è sistematizzare i materiali per rendere la documentazione fruibile a futuri approfondimenti, offrendo una lettura critica dell’evoluzione della ricerca artistica di Maria Rebecca Ballestra e del suo impatto nel panorama dell’arte contemporanea.

This study aims to provide a structured first approach to the work of Maria Rebecca Ballestra, analyzing her artistic and conceptual journey. Through an interdisciplinary practice that intertwines art, science, ecology, and technology, the artist has addressed highly relevant contemporary issues such as sustainability, cultural memory, and the transformations of our time. The research focuses on the methodology used for the study of archival sources, outlining an overview of the collection and analysis of documentary and critical material related to the artist. A biographical reconstruction of Ballestra is provided, with particular attention to her solo and group exhibitions, artist residencies, and awards.

The reasoned catalog examines her major artistic projects, including Journey into Fragility and Festival for the Earth, highlighting her commitment to exploring the relationship between humans and the environment. A special focus is given to her installations and more recent works, such as Sowers, which explores the intersection of art, technology, and nature, and Echoes of the Void, which introduces a reflection on temporality.
