La sacra rappresentazione di Domitilla di Antonia Pulci: edizione critica e commento

Abstract

Negli ultimi anni molti studiosi, anche internazionali, hanno palesato sempre maggior interesse nei confronti della sacra rappresentazione. Proprio per questo motivo questo elaborato si pone come obiettivo quello di approfondire questo argomento. La parte focale del lavoro mira in particolare ad esaminare in maniera più dettagliata la Rappresentazione Santa Domitilla di Antonia Pulci attraverso l’analisi delle fonti e lo studio delle varianti. La vita di Antonia, donna di elevata istruzione, moglie di Bernardo Pulci, fratello minore del più famoso Luigi e membro della splendida corte dei Medici, è peculiare. Antonia infatti ha avuto possibilità e frequentazioni culturali ben superiori alle donne del suo tempo: ha potuto in questo modo approfondire i propri interessi e produrre opere di valore, interessanti dal punto di vista religioso e culturale anche nei secoli successivi. La consultazione documentale, svolta in varie biblioteche ha permesso di redigere l’elenco dei testimoni presenti nella terza parte di questo elaborato. Il cospicuo numero di esemplari di questa opera mostra innegabilmente la sua fortuna nel XVI secolo. L’analisi delle varianti, che costituisce la parte principale della tesi, non evidenzia differenze significative tra gli incunaboli confrontati. La stampa infatti è sicuramente stata fondamentale sia nella diffusione dell’opera, sia nell’integra conservazione del contenuto anche nei secoli seguenti. La conoscenza di questo testo ha favorito anche le rappresentazioni sceniche, sicuramente avvenute, anche se in linea con le tradizioni del tempo, non ci sono rimaste indicazioni numerose e chiaramente riscontrabili sulla loro messa in scena.

In recent years many scholars, including international ones, have shown increasing interest in sacred representation. Precisely for this reason this thesis aims to delve deeper into this topic. The focal part of the work aims in particular to examine in more detail the Representation of Santa Domitilla by Antonia Pulci through the analysis of the sources and the study of the variants. The life of Antonia, a highly educated woman, wife of Bernardo Pulci, younger brother of the more famous Luigi and member of the splendid Medici court, is peculiar. In fact, Antonia had far greater cultural opportunities and acquaintances than the women of her time: in this way she was able to deepen her interests and produce works of value, interesting from a religious and cultural point of view even in the following centuries. The documentary consultation, carried out in various libraries, allowed us to draw up the list of witnesses present in the third part of this work. The large number of copies of this work undeniably shows its success in the 16th century. The analysis of the variants, which constitutes the main part of the thesis, does not highlight significant differences between the incunabula compared. In fact, printing was certainly fundamental both in the diffusion of the work and in the complete preservation of the content even in the following centuries. Knowledge of this text also favored stage performances, which certainly took place, even if in line with the traditions of the time, there are no numerous and clearly identifiable indications on their staging.
