Steven Spielberg e la rappresentazione cinematografica della Storia

Abstract

L'oggetto di questo lavoro è l'analisi cinematografica e storica di alcuni film di Steven Spielberg, precisamente: War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012), Il ponte delle spie (2015) e The Post (2017). Riconosciuto come uno dei più grandi e influenti registi del nostro tempo, Spielberg è capace di riprodurre le atmosfere e gli ambienti delle storie che vuole raccontare, attraverso un'impressionante e meticolosa attenzione ai dettagli e, soprattutto, alle emozioni. Come si evidenzia all'interno dell'analisi dei quattro film scelti, Spielberg è un maestro nel ritrarre temi ed emozioni universali che, nonostante le precise ambientazioni dei film, diventano senza tempo e permettono allo spettatore di essere completamente coinvolto nello sviluppo degli eventi. Lo stile registico di Spielberg è caratterizzato dall'utilizzo di tecniche di ripresa innovative in cui ogni movimento è abbondantemente studiato in modo da avere una forte componente emotiva e drammatica; Impiega abilmente movimenti dinamici della macchina da presa, lunghe riprese e primi piani strategici per creare una tensione crescente. L'impatto visivo che riesce a raggiungere è dovuto a un uso innovativo della luce e del colore per esaltare la narrazione e creare un senso di comunione tra tutti gli elementi che compongono il film. L'importanza della coesione tra narrazione e unità tecniche alla base di quest'arte, sviluppatasi rapidamente in poco più di cento anni, è, infatti, perfettamente compresa dal regista. Anche la comunicazione risulta essere un elemento fondamentale nelle rappresentazioni di Spielberg, basate sulla convinzione che gli esseri umani troveranno sempre un modo per connettersi con gli altri, anche nei momenti più difficili. Proprio partendo da questa esigenza di interazione tra gli esseri umani, nei quattro film sopra citati, Spielberg si propone di rappresentare aspetti cruciali della storia mondiale.

The object of this work is the cinematic and historical analysis of some of Steven Spielberg’s films, precisely: War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012), Bridge of Spies (2015) and The Post (2017). Renown as one of the greatest and most influential directors of our time, Spielberg is capable of reproducing the atmospheres and the environments of the stories he wants to tell, through an impressive and meticulous attention to details and, especially, emotions. As it is highlighted within the analysis of the four chosen films, Spielberg is a master in portraying universal themes and emotions which, despite the precise settings of the films, become timeless and allow viewers to get completely involved in the development of the events. Spielberg's directorial style is characterized by the use of innovative filming techniques in which each movement is profusely studied in order to have a strong emotional and dramatic component; he skillfully employs dynamic camera movements, long takes and strategic close-ups to build an increasing tension. The visual impact he manages to reach is due to an innovative use of light and colour to enhance storytelling and create a sense of communion between all the elements composing the film. The importance of cohesion between storytelling and technical units at the basis of this art, rapidly developed in few more than a hundred years, is, in fact, perfectly understood by the director. Communication as well turns out to be a fundamental element in Spielberg’s representations, based on the belief that human beings will always find a way to connect with others, even in the toughest moments. Precisely starting from this need for interaction between human beings, in the four films mentioned above, Spielberg aims to represent crucial aspects of the history of the world.
