Arte e musica come strumenti di soft power durante la guerra fredda: i Depeche Mode a Berlino Est

Abstract

La presente tesi si è posta l'obiettivo di analizzare il concetto di soft power, la sua definizione e le risorse su cui si basa e di considerare le ragioni della sua rilevanza nelle relazioni internazionali. Successivamente, è stato preso in esame il ruolo del soft power nell'ambito delle strategie politiche adoperate dagli Stati Uniti e dall'Unione Sovietica nel corso della Guerra Fredda, attraverso la sua declinazione nel cinema hollywoodiano e nella musica. Infine, è stato messo in evidenza un caso di studio che concerne un esempio pratico di soft power verificatosi a Berlino Est nel 1988.

The current thesis aimed to analyse the concept of soft power, its definition, the resources on which it is based and to consider the reasons for its revelance in international relations. Furthermore, the role of soft power in the political strategies employed by the USA and the Soviet Union during the Cold War was examined, through its expression in Hollywood cinema and music. To conclude, a case study concerning a practical example of soft power that occured in East Berlin in 1988 was highlighted.
