Il Fenomeno dei Grandi Eventi Sportivi. Il Caso di Genova Capitale Europea dello Sport 2024

Abstract

Questa tesi vuole analizzare l’impatto che un Grande Evento Sportivo (Genova Capitale Europea dello Sport) può avere sulla città che lo ospita, partendo da una disamina dei Grandi Eventi in generale, ponendo grande attenzione agli aspetti economici, a quelli culturali e politici e, più in particolare ai riflessi che questi hanno sui territori che li ospitano, sia sul medio che sul lungo periodo. Il metodo seguito è stato quello di dividere l’argomento in due aree. La prima parte è più strettamente teorica e affronta il tema degli eventi sportivi in generale, in modo da offrire a chi legge una panoramica sul fenomeno. Ho cercato di fornire un quadro il più possibile esaustivo sulla tematica e sulle angolature teoriche dalle quali è possibile analizzarla, dando rilievo alla particolare attualità dell’argomento e alla sua importanza nell’ottica del marketing territoriale. Ho esaminato anche l’influenza che i Grandi Eventi sportivi hanno generalmente sul tessuto sociale e culturale di una comunità, oltreché sull’ambiente, e ho particolarmente indagato il tema della sostenibilità, che è al centro di molte valutazioni e riflessioni, sia squisitamente politiche che strettamente operative da parte di chi ospita (o di chi vuole ospitare) i grandi eventi. Successivamente ho ristretto il campo all’analisi di Genova Capitale Europea dello Sport 2024, cercando di coprire tutto lo spettro di argomenti che il tema offre e di contestualizzarle anche all’interno dei vari argomenti affrontati prima in via astratta. Ho infine cercato di delineare quale potrebbe essere la potenziale eredità di questo evento.

This thesis aims to analyze the impact that a Major Sport Event (Genoa European Capital of Sport) can have on the host city. The analysis included a study of Major Events in general first, focusing especially on the related economic, cultural and political aspects and on the consequences that these have on the territories they take place in, both in the medium and long term. Then, sport events were addressed from two different perspectives. A theoretical perspective, based on sport events in general, and a more pragmatic perspective, based on the example of Genoa European Capital of Sport 2024. Through the first perspective, I analyzed sport events in general in order to give the reader an overview of the phenomenon. I tried to depict an exhaustive picture, including the theoretical approaches used to analyze the issue. At the same time, I put stress on its actual importance in relation with territorial marketing. I also examined the impact that major sport events generally have on the social and cultural fabric of a community, as well as on the environment. I have investigated especially the issue of sustainability, which represents the core of many political and operational assessments and reflections made by the local host committee (or the candidate host committee) of major events. Through the pragmatic perspective, I focused on the event “Genoa European Capital of Sport 2024” by covering the entire spectrum of related aspects and connecting them with the aforementioned ones. Finally, I outlined what the legacy of this event might be.
