L’industria litica dei livelli preistorici di San Nicolao di Pietra Colice. Inquadramento culturale e cronostratigrafico delle più antiche frequentazioni del sito.

Abstract

Il sito di San Nicolao di Pietra Colice si trova nel comune di Castiglione Chiavarese (GE), sul versante settentrionale del Monte San Nicolao, su di un pianoro ben riparato dall’imponente cresta del Monte Pietra di Vasca. La prime campagne di scavo vennero qui condotte negli anni ‘50 da parte di Leopoldo Cimaschi e interessarono prevalentemente l’area della chiesa medievale: venne però individuato un ulteriore edificio, che fu oggetto delle campagne di scavo portate avanti a partire dal 2001. Durante questi interventi fu possibile rilevare che, in alcune aree, queste strutture medievali, interpretate come resti di un hospitale, si appoggiavano su lembi di un deposito di più antica frequentazione, con evidenze antropiche di età preistorica. Queste tracce vennero indagate in due successive campagne di scavo, nel 2007-2008 e nel 2014-2015, e portarono al riconoscimento di una frequentazione antropica che, a partire dal Mesolitico, si protrasse nel Neolitico e nell’Età del rame, fino a giungere alle epoche storiche più recenti. Questo elaborato è quindi dedicato alla descrizione e all’analisi dell’industria litica preistorica messa in luce nel sito. Questa analisi è finalizzata ad un più corretto inquadramento delle frequentazioni succedutesi nel sito e comprende anche una revisione critica della stratigrafia, in relazione alle condizioni di giacitura e alla coerenza nella distribuzione dei manufatti all’interno delle varie fasi riconosciute nel record stratigrafico.

The site of San Nicolao di Pietra Colice is located in the municipality of Castiglione Chiavarese (GE), on the northern slope of Monte San Nicolao, on a plateau well sheltered by the imposing crest of Monte Pietra di Vasca. The first excavation campaigns were conducted here in the 1950s by Leopoldo Cimaschi and mainly concerned the area of the mediaeval church: however, a further building was identified, which was the subject of excavation campaigns carried out since 2001. During these interventions, it was possible to find that, in some areas, these medieval structures, interpreted as the remains of an hospitale, rested on the edges of a more ancient deposit, with anthropic evidence from prehistoric times. These traces were investigated in two successive excavation campaigns, in 2007-2008 and 2014-2015, and led to the recognition of anthropic frequentation that, starting from the Mesolithic period, continued into the Neolithic and the Copper Age, up to the most recent historical periods. This thesis is therefore dedicated to the description and analysis of the prehistoric lithic industry brought to light at the site. This analysis is aimed at a more correct framing of the frequentations that occurred at the site and also includes a critical review of the stratigraphy, in relation to the conditions of the deposition and to the coherence of the distribution of artefacts within the various phases recognised in the stratigraphic record.
