Il Dualismo dell'Armonia Tra Maschile e Femminile nella storia della Cina, con Riferimento Speciale ai Xiao Xian Rou

Abstract

Alla base di questo elaborato c’è l’interesse per il tema dell’androginia, ovvero dell’unione equilibrata di caratteristiche maschili e femminili in un singolo individuo, nella Cina contemporanea con uno sguardo ai suoi modelli estetici del passato, diversi a seconda delle epoche. Il testo si apre con l’introduzione ai Xiao Xian Rou 小鲜肉, giovani celebrità della scena musicale pop asiatica, i quali si stanno affermando come nuovo modello estetico popolare della Cina contemporanea: i Xiao Xian Rou, grazie alle numerose influenze orientali e occidentali e l’Internet, nascono come la perfetta rappresentazione della combinazione armoniosa di tratti di ambo i sessi, che accentuano grazie all’uso del trucco e della chirurgia estetica. È proprio concentrandosi sull’aspetto esteriore che veicolano il messaggio di contrapposizione all’immagine “tradizionale” di mascolinità, che richiama forza, autocontrollo e autorità, e si affidano a un aspetto più delicato ma intrinsicamente umano. Le motivazioni che mi hanno spinta ad approfondire il tema hanno in comune una domanda centrale: si tratta di un fenomeno improvviso, oppure anche in un’epoca lontana come la Cina imperiale, si possono trovare raffigurazioni armoniose, cui i xiao xian rou avrebbero potuto ispirarsi? Questo interesse è stato sicuramente influenzato dai numerosi nuovi artisti del mercato asiatico, che seguo con interesse, e dei quali ho avuto modo di notare la grande attenzione alla cura dell’immagine. L’obiettivo di questa tesi è quello di rispondere alla domanda precedentemente posta e di fornire un’analisi circa la presenza, nel passato, di “giochi di equilibrio” di caratteristiche forti e raffinate nell’uomo. In particolar modo, sono interessata ad approfondire i tratti attribuiti ai due generi per comprendere come si ripresentano nei modelli di bellezza delle nuove generazioni cinesi.

At the basis of this work is the interest in the theme of androgyny, or the balanced union of male and female characteristics in a single individual, in contemporary China with a look at its aesthetic models of the past, different depending on the eras. The text opens with the introduction to Xiao Xian Rou 小鲜肉, young celebrities of the Asian pop music scene, who are establishing themselves as a new popular aesthetic model of contemporary China: Xiao Xian Rou, thanks to numerous eastern and western influences and the Internet, are born as the perfect representation of the harmonious combination of traits of both sexes, which they accentuate thanks to the use of makeup and cosmetic surgery. It is precisely by focusing on the external aspect that they convey the message of contrast to the "traditional" image of masculinity, which recalls strength, self-control and authority, and they rely on a more delicate but intrinsically human aspect. The reasons that pushed me to delve deeper into the theme have a central question in common: is it a sudden phenomenon, or even in a distant era like imperial China, can harmonious depictions be found, which the xiao xian rou could have been inspired by ? This interest has certainly been influenced by the numerous new artists on the Asian market, whom I follow with interest, and whose great attention to image care I have noticed. The objective of this thesis is to answer the question previously posed and to provide an analysis of the presence, in the past, of "balancing games" of strong and refined characteristics in humans. In particular, I am interested in delving deeper into the traits attributed to the two genders to understand how they recur in the beauty models of the new Chinese generations.
