I due Beptistes, artefici della più grande festa del XVII secolo

Abstract

La tesi ripercorre la genesi e l’evoluzione dell’evento spettacolare più importante che ha avuto luogo durante il regno di Luigi XIV: Les Plaisirs de l’Ile enchantee. Un evento colossale che ha visti impegnati due dei maggiori artisti del momento, il musicista ballerino Giovanni Battista Lulli e il commediografo Jean-Baptiste Molière. Una festa che ha coinvolto sul palco politici e militari, come voleva l'usanza e soprattutto il re. I festeggiamenti del 1664 mettono in scena il sogno di un luogo meraviglioso, letterario, arredato con fasto, in cui trionfano amore amicizia e sogno. Per questa festa Luigi XIV mobilita i migliori e più rinomati artisti dell’epoca: oltre a Molière e Lully anche il pittore di corte Charles Le Brun e l’ingegnere italiano Carlo Vigarani, “l’inventore delle macchine del teatro e dei balletti”. Quattro star, diremmo oggi, per dar luogo ad una settimana intera di festeggiamenti che dovranno sbalordire per restare nel tempo. Quell' estetica della mescolanza di arti che rispecchia la rappresentazione ideologica di re Luigi XIV, capace di applicare il controllo anche alla vita culturale del regno, evitando ogni forma di dissenso. In ultimo la tesi prende in esame il grande lavoro fatto nel 1980 da Maurice Béjart nello spazio chiuso del palcoscenico della Comédie-Française. Malgrado non si sia a Versailles il coreografo, in questo caso anche regista, riesce ad evocare splendidamente la favolosa festa di Re Sole.

The thesis traces the genesis and evolution of the most important spectacular event that took place during the reign of Louis XIV: Les Plaisirs de l'Ile enchantee. A colossal event which involved two of the greatest artists of the moment, the musician-dancer Giovanni Battista Lulli and the playwright Jean-Baptiste Molière. A celebration that involved politicians and soldiers on stage, as custom required and above all the king. The celebrations of 1664 staged the dream of a wonderful, literary place, furnished with sumptuousness, in which love, friendship and dreams triumph. For this celebration, Louis Four stars, we would say today, to give rise to a whole week of celebrations that will have to amaze to last over time. That aesthetic of the mixture of arts that reflects the ideological representation of King Louis XIV, capable of applying control also to the cultural life of the kingdom, avoiding any form of dissent. Finally, the thesis examines the great work done in 1980 by Maurice Béjart in the closed space of the Comédie-Française stage. Despite not being in Versailles, the choreographer, in this case also the director, manages to splendidly evoke the fabulous celebration of Le Roi Soleil.
