Il concetto di disabilità nella cultura africana: fronteggiare pregiudizi e superstizioni tramite la relazione educativa e di aiuto.

Abstract

Il seguente elaborato nasce da un grande interesse nei confronti di una tematica affrontata nel corso di un’esperienza lavorativa come educatrice in una comunità mamma-bambino, ovvero per la disabilità vista con gli occhi delle ospiti, soffermandosi in particolare sul pensiero e le credenze emerse tra le mamme di origine africana. Non essendo un argomento di cui risulti facile parlare con chi convive con una disabilità propria o di un famigliare, in quanto il più delle volte questo ha rappresentato una problematica di cui non si potesse e non si dovesse sapere all’interno del contesto di appartenenza, l’obiettivo è quello di ricercare le cause di questo atteggiamento di chiusura, quasi a voler mantenere un segreto di cui, per timore o per vergona, gli altri, o meglio, gli appartenenti ad altre culture, non devono sapere. Ricercando in questo atteggiamento delle cause per lo più riconducibili all’esoterismo e alle religioni, che vedremo essere praticate diversamente nei vari stati del continente Africano, ci si soffermerà in particolare sulle confutazioni fornite dalla religione Islamica, fornendo alcuni elementi utili a comprendere come in realtà, questa religione qui fortemente professata, veda nella disabilità un motivo di salvezza in vista del raggiungimento dell’aldilà. Una caratteristica che non solo salverà dopo la morte chi la possiede, ma che in vita lo renderà meritevole di rispetto e cure maggiori da parte di chi lo circonda, le stesse che spettano a qualsiasi essere vivente. Una volta definita la problematica e le cause individuate, verranno poi ipotizzati una serie di interventi inclusivi, divisi per età, pensati per fronteggiare il fenomeno della doppia discriminazione, quella che emerge dall’essere in possesso di una disabilità e dall’appartenenza ad una cultura diversa.

The paper stems from a great interest in a topic addressed during a work experience as an educator in a mother-child community, namely for disability seen through the eyes of the guests, focusing in particular on the thought and beliefs that emerged among mothers of African origin. Since it is not an easy topic to talk about with those who live with a disability of their own or a family member, as most of the time this has represented a problem that could not and should not be known within the context of belonging, the goal is to search for the causes of this attitude of closure, as if to keep a secret of which, out of fear or shame, the others, or rather, the members of other cultures, they don't have to know. Seeking in this attitude causes that can be traced back mostly to esotericism and religions, which we will see being practiced differently in the various states of the African continent, we will focus in particular on the refutations provided by the Islamic religion, providing some useful elements to understand how in reality, this religion strongly professed here, sees in disability a reason for salvation in view of reaching the afterlife. A feature that will not only save those who possess it after death, but that in life will make him deserving of greater respect and care from those around him, the same as any living being. Once the problem and the identified causes have been defined, a series of inclusive interventions will then be hypothesized, divided by age, designed to deal with the phenomenon of double discrimination, the one that emerges from being in possession of a disability and belonging to a different culture.
