"Psicologia Ambientale e Comportamenti Ecologici: Analisi degli antecedenti e delle strategie di intervento"

Abstract

Alla luce dei sempre più frequenti e disastrosi fenomeni meteorologici legati al cambiamento climatico, tale lavoro di tesi si propone di approfondire come questo fenomeno influisca sulla vita degli esseri umani. A tal proposito, sono state raccolte le evidenze scientifiche prodotte all’interno della Psicologia Ambientale, le quali testimoniano come le persone manifestino una serie di disagi psicologici e anche disturbi psichiatrici legati all’esposizione dei fenomeni legati alla crisi ambientale. Il cambiamento climatico, infatti, rappresenta una delle più imminenti minacce alla salute e al benessere degli esseri umani del ventunesimo secolo, soprattutto per le persone con meno risorse per affrontarlo. Tale consapevolezza, combinata con dati che indicano le attività umane come una delle principali cause del fenomeno, motiva ricercatori attivi nel campo della Psicologia Ambientale dello Sviluppo Sostenibile a identificare le determinanti psicosociali che influenzano l'adozione di comportamenti ecologici. A tal proposito, sono stati descritti i fattori che influenzano le percezioni delle persone del cambiamento climatico e il ruolo delle attività umane in esso. In questo caso è stato individuato il contributo delle diverse forme di conoscenza possedute dalle persone, della "distanza psicologica" percepita dal fenomeno e del motivated reasoning, ovvero la tendenza delle persone di essere selettive nelle informazioni a cui prestano attenzione. In seguito, sono state descritte le variabili psico-sociali incluse all'interno della Theory of Planned Behaviour, della Value-Belief-Norm Theory e del paradigma dei Dilemmi sociali, che influenzerebbero la messa in atto di comportamenti pro-ambientali. In conclusione, vengono riportate alcune delle strategie informative e strutturali individuate dagli psicologi e dalle psicologhe ambientali al fine di promuovere la messa in atto di comportamenti ecosostenibili.

Due to the increasingly frequent and catastrophic weather phenomena related to climate change, this work aims to investigate in how the impact of this kind of phenomenon affects human lives. Environmental psychology studies evidence that the negative impacts of climate change on human minds is quite harmful for people's mental health. It is proved that even some psychiatric disorders can be linked to the exposure of phenomena related to environmental crises. Indeed, in the 21st century, climate change represents one of the most imminent threats to the health and well-being of human beings, especially in the low-income cases, where there's a lack of resources to deal with it. This awareness, together with data indicating human activities among the main causes of this phenomenon, prompts researchers in the field of Environmental Psychology of Sustainable Development to identify what are the psychosocial determinants that influence the enactment of ecological behaviors. The factors influencing people's perceptions of climate change and the role of human activities were described in this work. Hence were identified the role of different forms of knowledge owned by people, perceived psychological distance from the phenomenon and motivated reasoning, in other words people's tendency to be selective in the information they pay attention to. Furthermore, the psycho-social variables are included within the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the Value-Belief-Norm Theory and the Social Dilemmas paradigm were described, which would influence the enactment of pro-environmental behaviors. In conclusion, are reported some of the informational and structural strategies identified by environmental psychologists in order to promote the enactment of eco-sustainable behaviors.
