| it_IT |
dc.description.abstract | During the traineeship at the Pharmacy Department, batch tests and flow tests were carried out to assess the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB), using bamboo-derived biochar. Bamboo was previously pyrolyzed at different temperatures: 400°C (B400), 600°C (B600), 700°C (B700), 1000°C (B1000). The degradation of MB was assessed through absorbance measurements, that were later used to calculate the degradation percentage. Batch tests showed that B400 is the most efficient biochar for the BM degradation; for this reason, B400 was used in flow experiments. The first flow set-up consisted of a flow cell and B400 embedded into PDMS; in the second flow set-up the flow cell was replaced with a column, filled with small glass balls which were previously mixed with B400 powder. High degradation percentages were obtained with this second set-up in just 5 hours, but the efficiency of the column decreased after using the same packing three times. When hydrogen peroxide was added to the BM solution, degradation percentages were still higher than 50% after the fourth use of the same column: H2O2 has regenerating effect on the biochar. | en_UK |
