GAMAL ABD EL-NASSER E LA CRISI DEL CANALE DI SUEZ

Abstract

La tesi ha come argomento centrale la crisi del Canale di Suez, con particolare riferimento alla figura di Gamal Abd el-Nasser, leader egiziano la cui azione risultò fondamentale nella gestione della crisi. La crisi del Canale fu un avvenimento di cruciale importanza nel contesto storico e internazionale degli anni Cinquanta, suscitando l’interesse di moltissimi studiosi. La ragione di simile attenzione dipende dall’influsso che questi evento ebbe nella determinazione di un nuovo equilibrio internazionale e nella definizione del nuovo ruolo delle potenze europee in Medio Oriente, confermando l’ormai stabilita preminenza dell’Egitto di Nasser nel mondo arabo.

The thesis has as its central topic the Suez Canal crisis, with particular reference to the figure of Gamal Abd el-Nasser, an Egyptian leader whose action was fundamental in managing the crisis. The Canal crisis was an event of crucial importance in the historical and international context of the 1950s, arousing the interest of many scholars. The reason for such attention depends on the influence that this event had in determining a new international balance and in defining the new role of the European powers in the Middle East, confirming the now established pre-eminence of Nasser's Egypt in the Arab world.
