| it_IT |
dc.description.abstract | The conducted meta-analysis represents a careful attempt to explore the alleged gender differences within the field of mathematics, through a detailed examination of the scientific literature. An effort has been made to shed light on an inherently complex topic of sociocultural and scientific relevance. It is interesting that, despite the extensive discussion on the matter, numerous voices seem to suggest that gender differences in mathematics lack significant statistical consistency.
The research has shown that the performance of girls and boys tends to be comparable, with only slight advantages in favor of males. However, a statistically significant but modest gender difference has been highlighted. In this regard, the thesis seeks to further explore factors that fuel differences that cannot solely be attributed to gender predispositions, given that the male advantage in mathematical performance appears to be limited. Sociocultural factors, cognitive abilities, and levels of math anxiety have been addressed as topics deeply related to gender differences.
Furthermore, the discussion on difficulties in mathematics, along with dyscalculia, opens the doors to further significant reflections regarding the subject of interest. | en_UK |
