“Da grande voglio fare la principessa". L'evoluzione dei personaggi Disney tra stereotipi di genere ed educazione.

Abstract

Il presente elaborato di laurea ha lo scopo di esaminare la diffusione degli stereotipi di genere nelle fiabe del mondo Disney e l'effetto che ha sull'educazione, specialmente dei giovani individui. In particolare nel primo capitolo ci si focalizzerà dapprima sulla definizione e l'origine del genere, nonché sui principali riferimenti teorici. Si differenzierà questo concetto, di natura sociale, dal sesso, di natura biologica. Successivamente verranno esaminati gli stereotipi, in particolare quelli di genere. Si analizzerà la loro natura mutevole legata all'evoluzione della società e l'influenza che hanno sugli individui e viceversa. Alla fine del capitolo verranno introdotti gli Studi di genere e saranno presentate alcune figure che hanno cercato di cambiare la società attraverso nuove o rivisitate narrazioni. Infine, sarà chiarita la differenza tra l'identità di genere e altri concetti spesso confusi con quest'ultima. Il secondo capitolo approfondirà la socializzazione, concentrandosi in particolare su quella di genere, e i principali agenti di socializzazione che contribuiscono a formare i ruoli di genere nella società. Successivamente, partendo da una breve contestualizzazione storica della Walt Disney Company, si procederà con l'analisi della relazione tra i contenuti teorici affrontati e il mondo delle fiabe, in particolare quelle Disney. Nell'ultima parte dell'elaborato si evidenzierà l'influenza dei lungometraggi Disney e dei messaggi trasmessi sugli spettatori e sulla loro percezione di sé e del mondo. Le varie storie verranno analizzate e classificate in tre periodi, ognuno dei quali rifletterà l'evoluzione dei personaggi, in particolare delle figure femminili, maschili e degli antagonisti. Le principesse avranno un ruolo centrale nel processo di cambiamento e crescita, riflettendo le dinamiche storiche del periodo in cui sono state create e rappresentando la graduale emancipazione delle donne nel corso degli anni.

This dissertation aims to examine the diffusion of gender stereotypes in fairy tales of the Disney world and the effect it has on education, especially of young individuals. In particular, in the first chapter we will first focus on the definition and origin of the gender, as well as on the main theoretical references. We will differentiate this concept, of a social nature, from sex, of a biological nature. Next, stereotypes, especially gender stereotypes, will be examined. We will analyze their changing nature linked to the evolution of society and the influence they have on individuals and vice versa. At the end of the chapter Gender Studies will be introduced and some figures who have tried to change society through new or revisited narratives will be presented. Finally, the difference between gender identity and other concepts often confused with it will be clarified. The second chapter will delve into socialization, focusing in particular on that of gender, and the main agents of socialization that contribute to shaping gender roles in society. Subsequently, starting from a brief historical contextualization of the Walt Disney Company, we will proceed with the analysis of the relationship between the theoretical contents addressed and the world of fairy tales, in particular the Disney ones. The last part of the text will highlight the influence of Disney feature films and the messages transmitted on viewers and on their perception of themselves and of the world. The various stories will be analyzed and classified into three periods, each of which will reflect the evolution of the characters, in particular the female and male figures and the antagonists. The princesses will play a central role in the process of change and growth, reflecting the historical dynamics of the period in which they were created and representing the gradual empowerment of women over the years.
