Associazioni tra forme di trauma infantile e funzionamento sessuale: un'indagine empirica

Abstract

Questo studio si è posto l’obiettivo di approfondire le dinamiche sottostanti a due funzionamenti sessuali, quali l’asessualità e l’ipersessualità, e al trauma infantile, e come queste dimensioni si intreccino tra loro. Nello specifico, si è cercato di indagare le motivazioni per cui un individuo si definisca eventualmente asessuale o sviluppi un comportamento ipersessuale, e se queste motivazioni possano essere legate all’esperienza di un trauma vissuta in epoca infantile, a seguito di uno o piu eventi di maltrattamento. È stata condotta un’indagine bibliografica sulla letteratura già esistente al fine di presentare, in una modalità discorsiva, le teorie e le informazioni che sono risultate rilevanti per l’argomento preso in esame. In particolare, lo studio si è focalizzato sulla descrizione dei possibili aspetti sottostanti alle condizioni di asessualità ed ipersessualità, per esempio: i fattori biologici, gli aspetti psicologici e le influenze sociali, in modo da fare chiarezza sulle caratteristiche di un individuo definito asessuale ed ipersessuale, in quanto, in letteratura, il numero di ricerche in merito a questi due costrutti non è elevato, portando essi ad avere definizioni spesso precarie e discordanti. Per quanto riguarda il trauma infantile, sono state definite le varie forme di maltrattamento presenti in epoca infantile, in modo tale da poter indagare la possibile relazione che intercorre tra queste e i due costrutti sessuali sopra citati. Infine, si è tentato di studiare la possibile correlazione tra le due condizioni sessuali ed il trauma infantile. Si è posta particolare attenzione alle diverse forme di maltrattamento che si possono subire durante l’infanzia: maltrattamento fisico, maltrattamento emotivo, abuso sessuale, incuria fisica ed incuria emotiva.

This study set out to investigate the dynamics underlying two sexual functionings, such as asexuality and hypersexuality, and childhood trauma, and how these dimensions are intertwined. Specifically, an attempt was made to investigate the reasons why an individual possibly defines himself or herself as as asexual or develops hypersexual behavior, and whether these reasons might be related to the experience of trauma experienced in childhood, following one or more maltreatment events. A literature survey of existing literature was conducted in order to present, in a discursive mode, theories and information that were relevant to the topic under consideration. In particular, the study focused on describing the possible aspects underlying the conditions of asexuality and hypersexuality, for example: biological factors, psychological aspects, and social influences, in order to shed light on the characteristics of an individual defined as asexual and hypersexual, as, in the literature, the number of research regarding these two constructs is not high, leading them to have often precarious and discordant definitions. With regard to childhood trauma, the various forms of maltreatment present in childhood were defined so that the possible relationship between these and the two aforementioned sexual constructs could be investigated. Finally, an attempt was made to study the possible correlation between the two sexual conditions and childhood trauma. Special attention was paid to the different forms of maltreatment that can be experienced during childhood: physical maltreatment, emotional maltreatment, sexual abuse, physical neglect and emotional neglect.
