I dialetti in Italia oggi: recensione al volume "Dialetti reloaded" (2020)

Abstract

È ben acquisito il fatto che i dialetti, rispetto alla prognosi nefasta di estinzione e scomparsa ventilata negli anni '80, non solo hanno mostrato una certa tenuta - pur nell'inevitabile trasformazione e ridimensionamento degli ambiti d'uso a favore dell'italiano sempre più nativo e diffuso anche in contesti privati - ma anche usi nuovi, inaspettati, interessanti rivitalizzazioni. Come osserva Sobrero: il dialetto si muove lungo percorsi in parte contradditori. Da una parte è soggetto al «normale», prevedibile, atteso depotenziamento, che avviene per il contatto con un codice dominante sempre più pervasivo, e che si manifesta con la diminuzione dell’uso, il graduale cambio di funzione, un nuovo status sociolinguistico, la progressiva italianizzazione; dall'altra gode di una rivitalizzazione - relativamente recente - che lo vede espandersi ed estendersi -sia pure asistematicamente - anche a usi da tempo assegnati in modo che pareva esclusivo all'italofonia.

It is well established that dialects, compared to the ominous prognosis of extinction and disappearance aired in the 80s, have not only shown a certain stability - despite the inevitable transformation and downsizing of the areas of use in favor of the increasingly native and widespread even in private contexts - but also new, unexpected uses, interesting revitalizations. As Sobrero notes: the dialect moves along partly contradictory paths. On the one hand it is subject to the "normal", predictable, expected weakening which occurs through contact with an increasingly pervasive dominant code, and which manifests itself with the decrease in use, the gradual change of function, a new sociolinguistic status, the progressive Italianization; on the other it enjoys a revitalization - relatively recent - which sees it expand and extend - albeit asystematically - also to uses that have long been assigned in a way that seemed exclusive to Italian-speaking.
