L'Olocausto nelle analisi di Hannah Arendt e Zygmunt Bauman

Abstract

Il mio lavoro comincia introducendo la biografia dei due autori (Hannah Arendt e Zygmunt Bauman) e il loro percorso scientifico delineando i rispettivi contesti di riferimento e soffermandosi sui contributi principali. Dopodiché mi soffermo sulle varie tappe che hanno condotto Hitler alla Cancelleria tedesca e sul frastagliato percorso che ha portato la Germania e il mondo intero in guerra. Le fonti principali del secondo capitolo sono Storia del Terzo Reich di William L. Shirer e Breve storia del nazismo. 1920-1945 di Gustavo Corni. Successivamente tratto l’argomento principale, quello dal quale derivano le domande alle quali ho cercato di dare risposta tramite i testi di Arendt e Bauman, l’Olocausto. Gli interrogativi su cui si basa il mio lavoro sono le seguenti: come è potuto accadere per Arendt e Bauman un simile genocidio? Perché i nazisti hanno scelto gli Ebrei? Quali elementi hanno fatto sì che tutto ciò potesse succedere? Come hanno fatto delle persone normali a diventare dei freddi assassini? Perché le vittime non hanno opposto resistenza? Tutti questi temi sono affrontati da Hannah Arendt e Zigmunt Bauman . Il mio elaborato consiste nel raccogliere le informazioni e riportarle direttamente dai testi, in modo tale da mettere in luce le risposte date dai due autori a questi interrogativi e individuare elementi di continuità e discontinuità tra le loro analisi. Nell’ultimo capitolo affronto l’argomento dei campi di sterminio – sempre basandomi su testi di Arendt e Bauman (e con una descrizione dettagliata delle camere a gas di Shirer) – e l’idea di male. Quest’ultimo tema è particolarmente complesso e viene toccato trasversalmente in diversi momenti nel corso della mia analisi, concludendosi nell’ultimo capitolo con le definizioni fornite da Arendt e Bauman nei loro testi.

My work begins by introducing the biography of the two authors (Hannah Arendt and Zygmunt Bauman) and their scientific career, outlining their respective reference contexts and focusing on the main contributions. Then I focus on the various stages that led Hitler to the German Chancellery and on the jagged path that brought Germany and the whole world into war. The main sources of the second chapter are William L. Shirer's History of the Third Reich and A Brief History of Nazism. 1920-1945 by Gustavo Corni. Then I deal with the main topic, the one from which the questions I have tried to answer through the texts of Arendt and Bauman, the Holocaust. The questions on which my work is based are the following: how could such a genocide happen for Arendt and Bauman? Why did the Nazis choose the Jews? What elements made all this happen? How did ordinary people become cold-blooded killers? Why didn't the victims resist? All these themes are addressed by Hannah Arendt and Zigmunt Bauman. My work consists in collecting the information and reporting it directly from the texts, in order to highlight the answers given by the two authors to these questions and to identify elements of continuity and discontinuity between their analyses. In the last chapter I deal with the topic of the extermination camps - always based on texts by Arendt and Bauman (and with a detailed description of the gas chambers by Shirer) - and the idea of ​​evil. This last theme is particularly complex and is transversally touched upon at various points in the course of my analysis, concluding in the last chapter with the definitions provided by Arendt and Bauman in their texts.
