Progetto di riqualificazione del bar Ex-Invidia di Varazze

Abstract

Il presente lavoro di tesi affronta la riqualificazione dell’ex bar Invidia a Varazze, un edificio demaniale situato tra il lungomare e Corso Matteotti, dismesso dal 2018 e in stato di degrado. In aderenza al bando comunale, l'intervento mira a restituire la struttura alla collettività come polo di aggregazione sociale. Il progetto elimina le aggiunte stratificatesi nel tempo e introduce una grande copertura orizzontale autonoma, un piano d'ombra capace di connettere visivamente e spazialmente la terrazza belvedere, il dehor e il marciapiede. Il percorso progettuale si articola nel confronto tra due soluzioni strutturali volte a risolvere il rapporto con il manufatto storico. La prima ipotesi mira a preservare integralmente l’edificio sostenendo la copertura con montanti esterni; tuttavia, le notevoli luci strutturali richieste generano elementi di grande impatto visivo che rischiano di compromettere la leggerezza dell'intervento. A causa di tali limitazioni formali e spaziali, si opta per la seconda soluzione che accetta il compromesso di far attraversare la muratura da montanti puntuali i quali, però, non vanno ad intaccare l’architettura originaria, ma scandiscono e ritmano i nuovi ambienti.

This thesis work addresses the architectural and functional redevelopment of the former Bar Invidia in Varazze, a state-owned building located between the seafront and Corso Matteotti, vacant since 2018 and currently in a state of decay. In compliance with the municipal call for tenders, the intervention aims to return the structure to the community as a hub for social gathering. The project removes the additions that have accumulated over time and introduces a large autonomous horizontal roof, a shadow plane capable of visually and spatially connecting the belvedere terrace, the dehor, and the surrounding sidewalk. The design process is articulated through the comparison of two structural solutions aimed at resolving the relationship with the historical artifact. The first option seeks to entirely preserve the building by supporting the roof with external uprights; however, the significant structural spans required generate elements of heavy visual impact that risk compromising the lightness of the intervention. Due to these formal and spatial limitations, the second solution is chosen, which accepts the compromise of having point uprights pass through the masonry. These, however, do not affect the original architecture, but instead mark and rhythm the new spaces.
