| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the role of psychological processes and mental factors in optimizing maximal strength performance (1-RM), with particular reference to powerlifting and streetlifting. Initially, the historical development, regulatory characteristics, and biomechanical differences between the two disciplines are examined. Powerlifting focuses on the expression of absolute strength against external resistance, whereas streetlifting requires relative strength, motor control, and the ability to manage the body while performing weighted exercises. The thesis then explores the influence of psychological factors on sports performance, examining the role of the Sport Psychologist, their methodological competencies, and the importance of personalized mental training interventions, distinguishing this professional figure from that of a mental coach. A central section of the study focuses on the main theoretical models of psychophysiological arousal, including Drive Theory, the Inverted-U Hypothesis, Catastrophe Theory, Reversal Theory, and the Individual Zones of Optimal Functioning (IZOF) model. These theories help explain how arousal, anxiety, and concentration can influence the expression of maximal strength. The comparison between the two disciplines highlights the need for sport-specific mental regulation. In powerlifting, high but controlled arousal may enhance strength expression, whereas streetlifting requires a balance between arousal and attentional focus to maintain coordination and joint stability. In conclusion, maximal strength performance results from the interaction of physiological, biomechanical, and psychological factors. Mental preparation is therefore an essential component of athletic training, contributing to performance improvement, injury prevention, and the preservation of athletes’ long-term psychophysical well-being. | en_UK |
