Infine, vengono spiegati i possibili disturbi legati all’attaccamento insicuro.
This thesis aims to investigate the central role of the attachment bond in child development. In particular, it analyzes how the relationship with the caregiver influences the development of self-regulation, identity, and the child's future social adjustment, examining how important it is to develop a secure attachment to promote optimal individual development. This work revolves around the following question: 'Is the attachment style formed during a child's early years crucial for their social and emotional development?' The first chapter, titled “Attachment Theory and the Importance of Early Relationships” explains the definition of attachment and the theoretical constructs of Bowlby, as well as Ainsworth's contribution: her Strange Situation Procedure and the concept of the secure base are explained. The four attachment styles that emerged from the SSP and their role in the formation of MOIs are described in detail. Finally, the possible disorders related to insecure attachment are explained. In the second chapter, titled "The Capacity for Self-Regulation: Typical and Atypical Development and the Role of the Environment," the topic of self-regulation is explored both in its typical and atypical development: it tries to understand its definition, the stages leading to self-regulatory development, the factors that influence its course, and the cognitive abilities that support its growth. The two constructs, self-regulation and attachment, are put into dialogue, trying to understand how much they influence each other. In the third chapter, titled "Parenting Styles, Intervention Strategies, and Future Social Adjustment," the practical and preventive side of this thesis is addressed. The concepts of parenting styles and parenting and the intervention strategies to support parenting are analyzed, in order to promote optimal child development.en_UK
