| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | The present study examined the relationship between inhibitory control and mathematical performance in lower secondary school students, further investigating the contribution of different methods of assessing inhibitory control. Specifically, three computerized tasks, namely the Stroop, Flanker, and Simon tasks, were considered to examine their association with mathematical performance and their contribution to predicting performance on the mathematics test. The study involved 159 students aged between 13 and 14 years. Inhibitory control was assessed through the Stroop, Flanker, and Simon tasks, while mathematical performance was assessed using a test consisting of 53 items covering different areas of mathematics. First, the relationship between inhibitory control and mathematical performance was examined through a Pearson correlation. Subsequently, simple linear regression analyses and a multiple linear regression analysis were conducted to examine the contribution of the three tasks to mathematical performance. The correlation analysis revealed a moderate, positive and statistically significant relationship between inhibitory control and mathematical performance (r = .437, p < .001). The simple linear regression analyses showed that all three tasks were positively associated with mathematical performance. However, in the multiple regression analysis, only the Flanker task maintained a positive and statistically significant contribution (β = .379, p < .001). The overall model explained 23,3% of the variance in mathematical performance, corresponding to 21,4% when considering the adjusted coefficient of determination. The results highlight a significant association between inhibitory control and mathematical performance and suggest that different methods of assessing inhibitory control may make distinct contributions to explaining mathematical performance. | en_UK |
