This thesis addresses the topic of obstetric violence, a phenomenon that has received growing attention in scientific and public debate in recent years, while still remaining largely at the margins of institutional reflection on reproductive health. The work follows a funnel structure, moving from broader themes toward the specific focus of obstetric violence. The first chapter reconstructs the socio-cultural dimensions of motherhood, starting from the concept of gender, the social construction of motherhood, and the phenomenon of mother blaming, up to the Thomas theorem as a key to understanding the concrete effects of social definitions. The second chapter examines the power that governs the reproductive body, from patriarchal objectification to the medicalization of childbirth. The third chapter applies these conceptual tools to obstetric violence itself, analyzing its definition from a sociological perspective, its concrete forms, international guidelines and countermovements, and its psychological implications for the women who experience it. The thesis argues that obstetric violence cannot be reduced solely to isolated episodes or individual behaviors, but must be examined as the outcome of a broader cultural and institutional framework, an understanding that is a necessary condition for real change in the care of mothers and children.en_UK
