Re-athletization represents a fundamental phase in the recovery process of an injured athlete, bridging the gap between the completion of clinical rehabilitation and the return to full sports participation. In professional football, it is particularly relevant due to the high intensity of the game, fixture congestion, and increasing physical, technical, and tactical demands. Therefore, this process requires a multidisciplinary, individualized, and evidence-based approach. The aim of re-athletization is not only to restore the physical capacities affected by injury, but also to achieve a complete recovery of sport-specific functionality, ensuring a safe return to competition, reducing the risk of re-injury, and optimizing performance. This thesis analyzes the re-athletization process in professional football, focusing on the evolution of performance demands, the main factors associated with injuries, and the role of prevention through workload and recovery management. Particular attention is given to athlete monitoring through GPS systems and Wellness questionnaires, which provide information on external and internal load. The core of the thesis examines three clinically relevant conditions in professional football players: meniscal injury, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, and L5-S1 lumbar disc herniation. For each condition, injury mechanisms, clinical aspects, treatment, rehabilitation, and subsequent re-athletization phases are discussed, emphasizing the importance of progressive recovery based on objective criteria. Scientific evidence is integrated with the experience gained at Genoa Cricket and Football Club, with particular attention to Return to Training (RTT), Return to Play (RTP), and the collaboration between physicians, physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches, and technical staff. Overall, re-athletization emerges as a dynamic and highly specialized process aimed at restoring the physical, functional, neuromuscular, technical.en_UK
