This thesis investigates the complex interaction between musical art and the political sphere, moving beyond the notion that music serves exclusively as a form of entertainment. Based on a historical and theoretical reconstruction, the research explores the nature of this relationship by adopting both an institutional and a social perspective. On the one hand, the study aims to describe the use of music by States as an instrument aimed at consensus-building and as a weapon in times of need; on the other hand, it highlights its subversive potential in the hands of the masses and collective movements. The core of the thesis consists of the case study of the long 1968, a period of profound crisis in the world order during which genres such as folk, rock, and soul were not limited to providing a soundtrack to the protests, but acted as ideological catalysts for demands concerning civil rights, pacifism, and the emancipation of minorities. The analysis also addresses the contradictions of this mobilization, bringing to light the constant attempt by capitalist industry and record markets to commodify and neutralize the counterculture. Finally, the research concludes with a reflection on the legacy of the 1968 movement, projected onto the contemporary landscape. This perspective demonstrates how, despite current trends toward depoliticization, music retains its full capacity to voice social demands and challenge established power, confirming its role as a fundamental tool for bottom-up participation.en_UK
