The goal of this thesis is to present the foundations of topological K-theory and to state and prove Bott periodicity theorem in the complex case. The first chapter introduces the theory of real and complex vector bundles over topological spaces, presenting their basic constructions and the fundamental results. The second chapter deals with vector bundles over spheres, providing classification results up to isomorphism. K-theory is then addressed in the second part of the work. First, the K-rings of a topological space are defined by means of the Grothendieck group construction and, in the complex case, exact sequences in K-theory are derived for compact Hausdorff spaces. Next, still focusing on the complex case, external products are defined and the fundamental product theorem is stated, along with an outline of the proof. Finally, this result is used to prove Bott periodicity theorem and several of its consequences are presented, such as the computation of the complex K-rings of spheres.en_UK
