This study investigates the role of cognitive legitimacy within equity crowdfunding (ECF) campaigns oriented towards the twin transition (digital and green transition). Building on previous evidence indicating that the explicit disclosure of sustainability themes in digitalization projects does not guarantee greater success, this research hypothesized that such ineffectiveness was linked to a shortcoming in how companies structure information and make themselves understood by investors. To this end, an empirical analysis was conducted on 126 ECF campaigns (2017-2026), quantifying cognitive legitimacy through a specific codebook and the use of Artificial Intelligence to examine texts and images. The results showed that combining twin transition goals with high cognitive legitimacy proves counterproductive, negatively impacting the amount of funds raised. The study thus highlights how an excess of rationalization, data, and informational complexity ultimately disincentivizes the crowd when faced with twin transition projects.en_UK
