Gruppi di Simmetria Euclidea

Abstract

Il presente lavoro di tesi analizza i gruppi di simmetria euclidea nel piano e la loro classificazione geometrica, indagando il legame tra formalismo algebrico, strutture cognitive innate e didattica della geometria. Nella prima parte, dopo aver richiamato i fondamenti degli spazi affini ed euclidei e la teoria delle isometrie, viene presentata la classificazione geometrica dei 17 gruppi cristallografici piani (wallpaper groups). La seconda parte si concentra sulla presentazione di alcune attività didattiche svolte in una classe quarta della scuola primaria e sull'analisi delle riflessioni neuroscientifiche di Stanislas Dehaene. L’obiettivo è evidenziare come la didattica possa valorizzare e formalizzare le intuizioni spaziali e di simmetria che gli alunni possiedono già spontaneamente.

This thesis explores planar Euclidean symmetry groups and their geometric classification, investigating the connection between algebraic formalism, innate cognitive structures, and mathematics education. The first part, after reviewing the foundations of affine and Euclidean spaces and the theory of isometric transformations, presents the geometric classification of the 17 planar crystallographic groups (wallpaper groups). The second part focuses on the presentation of educational activities carried out in a fourth-grade primary school classroom and on the analysis of Stanislas Dehaene’s neuroscientific perspectives. The objective is to highlight how geometry education can effectively build upon and formalize the spatial and symmetry intuitions that students already naturally possess.
