| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | Why do aesthetic ideals regarding the body, which have always existed throughout human history, exert such a significant weight on our lives? In order to answer this question, which will be the guiding thread of this thesis, it is necessary to take a step back and conduct a philosophical analysis of our conceptions of bodily beauty.
The way we conceptualize bodily beauty inevitably influences how we act toward others' bodies, as well as toward our own, sometimes altering behavior to the point of pathology.
For this reason, the actual weight of a specific idea of beauty will be analyzed through the examination of various phenomena: the oppression (or stigma?) of people considered fat, the halo effect, media aesthetics and visual overstimulation, leading up to the analysis of eating disorders, which are considered the literal crystallization of what is flawed in our aesthetic ideals.
There is a discrepancy between our dominant aesthetic ideals and reality. In light of this, it is necessary to rethink our conceptions of bodily beauty. | en_UK |
