This thesis investigates the psychosocial relationship between the dehumanization of sex offenders and the general population's level of engagement toward gender equality. The theoretical framework suggests that reducing the offender to the stereotype of a "monster" leads to attributing violence solely to individual and biological factors, thereby obscuring the structural and cultural nature of the phenomenon and inhibiting the motivation for collective action. The empirical research, conducted via an online questionnaire on a sample of 267 participants, tested the hypothesis that greater dehumanization of the offender is associated with lower levels of social activation. The results of the correlations and linear regressions confirmed the hypothesis (H1): as dehumanization (both explicit and subtle) increases, a significant decrease in engagement is observed in both past activities and future intentions. In conclusion, the study highlights a paradox whereby the moral exclusion of the sex offender ultimately absolves the community of responsibility, acting as an invisible barrier that hinders the activism and structural changes needed to counter the cultural roots of gender-based violenceen_UK
