This thesis analyzes the social perception of content creators on the OnlyFans platform, with a particular focus on the processes of sexual objectification and the attribution of agency, defined as the capacity for self-determination and control over one’s own actions. After reviewing the literature on dehumanization and sexual objectification, this study explores the phenomenon of digital sex work and the debate surrounding OnlyFans, which is often described alternately as a tool for empowerment or as a form of structural oppression. The empirical part of the research comprises two studies. The first compares the perceptions of OnlyFans content creators with those of women who are not content creators. The second compares content creators with so-called “umbrella girls,” a professional role frequently associated with processes of sexual objectification. The consequences of the sexualized or non-sexualized presentation of the participants were also analyzed. The results of the first study showed that content creators are more sexually objectified than non-content creators, but are not perceived as having less agency or autonomy. Regarding Study 2, the results showed that participants reported stronger behavioral intentions of objectification toward content creators than toward “umbrella girls,” and that content creators were attributed greater autonomy. However, women were not perceived differently depending on whether they were presented in a sexualized manner or not. The findings suggest that, in the context of digital sex work, sexual objectification and agency can coexist. These results therefore call for moving beyond dichotomous interpretations of the phenomenon: content creators are perceived simultaneously as sexualized subjects and as individuals with decision-making capacity, while remaining exposed to stigma and structural inequalitiesen_UK
