Come la Dottrina Reagan ha cambiato l’Occidente: principi ideologici e applicazioni politiche

Abstract

Questa tesi si propone di analizzare la figura di Ronald Reagan, 40esimo Presidente degli Stati Uniti d’America, dal 1980 al 1988. L’obbiettivo dell’elaborato è quello di inquadrare il politico Repubblicano come un pensatore politico, concentrandomi principalmente sulla sua dottrina. Dopo un primo capitolo biografico, utile per inquadrare e contestualizzare meglio la sua figura, la vera essenza della tesi sta nel secondo capitolo, in cui l’analisi si concentra appunto sulla sua dottrina, tanto in chiave di politica interna quanto internazionale. Oltre a comprendere i suoi campi di azione, mi sono cimentato nell’analizzare i risvolti delle manovre adottate dal Presidente statunitense, con effetti anche a lungo termine. Infine, nel terzo e ultimo capitolo, ho messo a confronto Ronald Reagan con un’altra capostipite del movimento conservatore, Margaret Thatcher, Primo Ministro inglese dal 1979 al 1990. Anche qui, ho analizzato la sua figura e la sua storia, soffermandomi con maggiore attenzione sul ruolo che i due leader hanno avuto nel difendere i valori occidentali, scontrandosi apertamente con il blocco sovietico, altro grande protagonista della Guerra Fredda.

This thesis aims to analyze the figure of Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States from 1980 to 1988. The goal of the work is to frame the Republican politician as a political thinker, focusing mainly on his doctrine. After an initial biographical chapter, useful for better framing and contextualizing his figure, the true essence of the thesis lies in the second chapter, where the analysis focuses on his doctrine, both in terms of domestic and international policy. In addition to understanding his areas of action, I also engaged in analyzing the implications of the maneuvers adopted by the American President, with long-term effects as well. Finally, in the third and final chapter, I compared Ronald Reagan with another founding figure of the conservative movement, Margaret Thatcher, who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990. I analyzed his figure and his story, focusing more closely on the role that the two leaders played in defending Western values, openly clashing with the Soviet bloc, another major player in the Cold War.
