YEMEN: LA LUNGA CRISI DI UNA NAZIONE MAI DAVVERO UNITA (1962-2015)

Abstract

La tesi tratta l’evoluzione storica e politica dello Yemen dal 1962 al 2015, con uno sguardo alla situazione odierna. Dopo aver ricostruito la divisione tra Nord e Sud e il processo di unificazione del 1990, si esaminano le tensioni interne, le guerre con gli Houthi e l’impatto della Primavera araba. Viene poi analizzato il fallimento della transizione democratica, l’esplosione della guerra civile attuale e i fattori endogeni, come religione, tribalismo, povertà. Infine, si approfondiscono le fragilità economiche e istituzionali, insieme a fenomeni come terrorismo, traffici illeciti e flussi di rifugiati.

This dissertation examines the historical and political evolution of Yemen from 1962 to 2015, with a focus on the current situation. After reconstructing the North-South divide and the 1990 unification process, it examines internal tensions, the wars with the Houthis, and the impact of the Arab Spring. It then analyzes the failure of the democratic transition, the outbreak of the current civil war, and endogenous factors such as religion, tribalism, and poverty. Finally, it delves into economic and institutional fragilities, along with phenomena such as terrorism, illicit trafficking, and refugee flows.
