L'intelligence statunitense nella Guerra fredda. La CIA tra covert operation e Kulturkampf

Abstract

La presente tesi ha come obiettivo quello di studiare la storia della Central Intelligence Agency, dalla sua creazione nel 1947 al 1956. In particolare, si cerca di capire il ruolo della CIA nel processo decisionale della politica estera americana, il ruolo delle sue operazioni coperte in Europa e i loro effetti. Partendo da una classificazione generale delle operazioni coperte, si analizzano quelle più importanti (che furono soprattutto di tipo politico e culturale), inserendole nell'ampio contesto del primo periodo della Guerra fredda in Europa. L'ultima parte della tesi è dedicata allo studio dell'operazione di tipo culturale QKOPERA.

The aim of this thesis is to study the history of the Central Intelligence Agency, from its creation in 1947 to 1956. In particular, the goal is to understand the role that the CIA played in the making of American foreign policy, the role of its covert operations in Europe and their impact. Starting from a general classification of covert operations, we want to learn which were the most important ones in Europe (that were mostly of political and cultural nature), giving a general picture of the whole continent during that first period of the Cold War. The last part of the thesis focuses on the cultural covert operation QKOPERA.
