“la Bella e la Bestia”, Quando il cinema d’animazione incontra il musical.

Abstract

La tesi sviluppa un'analisi della storia della musica e del suono all'interno del cinema d'animazione, soffermandosi, in particolare, sulla scelta di utilizzare il musical come genere prediletto all'interno delle produzioni animate, utilizzando il film Beauty and the Beast (La Bella e la Bestia,1989) come caso studio.

All’interno della tesi viene ricostruita la storia dell’animazione, enfatizzando il rapporto che essa intrattiene con il sonoro e con il musical.

Parte del lavoro è stato successivamente incentrato sulla ricostruzione dell'evoluzione della musica all'interno dei film della casa di produzione Disney, per capire come e perché essa abbia iniziato a scegliere sempre di più questo genere per veicolare in maniera efficace la narrazione dei suoi film.

Nella seconda parte dell’elaborato, centrale è la ricostruzione del processo creativo e l'analisi del film che più di tutti segna un incontro tra cinema d'animazione e musical: Beauty and the Beast (La Bella e la Bestia,1989), indagando da un punto di vista artistico e musicale, come esso dialoghi con i codici del musical di Broadway, creando un perfetto bilancio tra narrazione e musica che rende il film un classico apprezzato da pubblico e critica.

The thesis develops an analysis of the history of music and sound within animated cinema, focusing in particular on the choice to use the musical genre as the preferred choice within animated productions, using the film Beauty and the Beast (1989) as a case study.

Within the thesis, the history of animation is reconstructed, emphasizing the relationship it maintains with sound and the musical genre.

Part of the work is then focused on reconstructing the evolution of music within the films produced by Disney, to understand how and why the company increasingly chose this genre to effectively convey the narrative of its films.

In the second part of the paper, the central focus is on the reconstruction of the creative process and the analysis of the film that most significantly marks the intersection between animated cinema and the musical genre: Beauty and the Beast (1989). From an artistic and musical perspective, it explores how the film engages with the codes of Broadway musicals, creating a perfect balance between narrative and music that makes it a classic appreciated by both audiences and critics.
