L'interiorizzazione degli stereotipi di genere nell'infanzia

Abstract

Riflettendo sulle iniquità di genere presenti nella società occidentale odierna, ci si è chiesti quando esse inizino a svilupparsi nel corso della vita dellɜ individuɜ . Pertanto, questa tesi mira ad analizzare a quale età e attraverso quali mezzi si comincia ad acquisire e a interiorizzare gli stereotipi di genere, evidenziando i limiti e i vincoli che sono imposti allɜ bambinɜ di entrambi i generi. Partendo dagli spunti tratti dalle lezioni dell’insegnamento di “Sociologia dell’infanzia”, che comprendono la descrizione delle tipologie di maschilità e femminilità presenti nella società occidentale contemporanea, e delle gabbie sociali che imprigionano lɜ individuɜ in ruoli di genere imposti dalla società, questa tesi ha lo scopo di definire in che modo lɜ bambinɜ vengano implicitamente a conoscenza degli stereotipi di genere, evidenziando il ruolo che hanno in tale processo gli adulti significativi, e soprattutto il gioco genderizzato. Sono stati approfonditi questi ultimi concetti per sottolineare l’importanza di osservare i rischi e i limiti che gli stereotipi di genere infliggono sullo sviluppo di certe abilità dellɜ bambinɜ, influenzandone anche il futuro, in ambito lavorativo e relazionale, e il benessere psicologico. Verranno inoltre descritte semplici proposte per prevenire tali danni allo sviluppo causati dai bias di genere.

Reflecting on the gender inequities present in Western society today, we wondered when they begin to develop in the course of an individual's life. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze at what age and through what means one begins to acquire and internalize gender stereotypes, highlighting the limits and constraints that are imposed on children of both genders. Starting from the ideas taken from the lessons of the "Sociology of Childhood" course, which include the description of the types of masculinity and femininity present in contemporary Western society, and of the social cages that imprison individuals in gender roles imposed by society, this thesis aims to define how children implicitly become aware of gender stereotypes, highlighting the role that significant adults, and above all gendered play, have in this process. These last concepts were explored in depth to underline the importance of observing the risks and limits that gender stereotypes inflict on the development of certain skills of children, also affecting their future in their workplace, their relationships, and their psychological well-being. Simple proposals to prevent such developmental damage caused by gender bias will also be described.
