During the design workshop of the fifth year, the redevelopment of the Val Polcevera’s area was tackled, following the collapse of the Morandi bridge, which ended with a series of projects that covered almost the entire extension of the valley. The intention was to continue and deepen the subject already tackled by treating an area located at the mouth of the Polcevera’s river. The area, belonging to Arcelor Mittal, presents an abandoned building that is an ex-power plant. The structure is monumental and can be associated with a gothic cathedral for its verticality. On site investigations and researches have led to the idea of designing a building that is in step with the times and that can also be used in the future. As technologies evolve, people’s lifestyle have changed and more and more companies need data storage space. For this reason, it was decided to locate a data center here. The pre-existing one is also placed side by side with a building (for filming) that mirrors the volumes but differs for materials. This choice is in line with the technological progress that has also affected by the presence of the Cinema’s Academy of Villa Bombrini and as the city of Genoa has recently been the scene of several films. The intention is to reclassify on obsolete building and cover it. The original formal aspect has been manteined as much as possible including elements that are provisional. For the new building, on envelope has been created inside which volumes of different heights have been placed in which the different functions are located. The aim of the project is to create a new pole fore companies by exploiting the distance of the site from the town. Nowadays the technology has become an integral part of our lives, without it, it would not be possible to carry out actions that for us are almost natural. It has profoundly changed the way we communicate, not only on the telephone but also visually, so it aims to mark a clear communication going to explore what is at the base of the new concept of telecommunication.it_IT
