Abstract

A ship is a very complex system, and for it to work, it requires that the many elements that make it up work together properly to allow the ship itself to meet the owner's needs. Its design is therefore organized according to this principle: once the main characteristics of the ship are established based on the client's requirements, the process follows a spiral, where each component of the ship system is iteratively designed over and over, until the final characteristics converge. In this bachelor's thesis, the aim is to go through the widest loop of the design spiral completely, carrying out an initial estimate of the characteristics the ship will need to have. The ship in question is a product carrier, so it's meant to transport refined petroleum products in its tanks. As typically happens in the naval field, the design was developed based on the model of another ship, the Four Sky.
